ISPACE IN THE MONTH OF MAY
NEIP TRAINING
The month of May kicked off with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan(NEIP) training at iSpace. This program is an initiative of the Government of Ghana to provide business development skills, startup incubation and funding to young entrepreneurs. The duration for the training is one month, it comprises of three sessions morning, afternoon and evening. The training program is a partnership between NEIP and various hubs including iSpace Foundation. After the training, a total of 500 participants out of 7000 will be supported in terms of funding and other needed logistics.
GIFEC TRAINING
Also in the month of May, the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) with support from iSpace Foundation trained ICT teachers in basic coding, animation and robotics. The training took place at the Kwabenya ICT Centre, with about 25 teachers from the different government schools in the Kwabenya District. The purpose of the training is to provide these teachers with skills in basic coding, animation and robotics so that they will in turn teach the children in the various basic schools. This training forms part of government’s policy to introduce coding in the schools’ curriculum.
DISCUSSION WITH MINISTER OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Entrepreneurs in and outside of iSpace were given the opportunity to have a talk with the Minister and his team about the challenges they are facing as entrepreneurs. The Minister touched on issues of tax reliefs for startup businesses, how businesses can scale up etc. He added that this will help achieve the vision of the President which is ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’. The CEO of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Pan (NEIP) was also there to elaborate more on the NEIP initiative and how government plans to help young entrepreneurs with funding, business development skills etc to help them became successful.
EMERSON COLLEGE STUDENT VISIT
A total of about 10 students from Emerson College in Boston visited iSpace Foundation to inquire how the hub merges technology with entrepreneurship. The students were also given a tour around the hub. The students are having an exchange program in the University of Ghana, legon.
FRENCH EMBASSY VISIT
iSpace was honored to be visited by two officials from the French Embassy in Ghana. The purpose of the visit was to discuss how to create ties between the French startup ecosystem and that of Ghanaian startup ecosystem. In the discussion, iSpace listed a number of startups in the incubator as well as the series of programs it runs as a hub.
LAUNCH OF READING COMPETITION
iSpace was privileged to host the launch of the third edition of the National Super Reader Competition. This is an initiative of AER Services in collaboration with Ghana Education Services(GES). The purpose of the competition is to inculcate the habit of reading in children.
